Rustam Kurbanly
I am an artist and architect who also teaches drawing, sketching and perspective. I started to draw before I could walk. I have always been interested in graphic art, especially in drawing and illustration. My love for black & white art originates from the fascination with my dad’s huge collection of black and white photography magazines, art albums and also his collection of historical photographs and postcards. Among my greatest influences are drawings by Valentin Serov, Millicent Lisle Woodforde, Samuel Chamberlain, Frank Frazetta, Rembrandt and Katsushika Hokusai.
Drawing has always been central to how I work. Graphite, charcoal and pigmented ink are my preferred media. A great deal of my inspiration comes from observing nature and the magic worlds of childhood. In my fantasy graphic work I retain a child's sense of wonder and their unique way of looking at the world, with imagination stretching the boundaries of reality.
I reside permanently outside Kilkelly, in the West of Ireland
